Lesotho: new Commissioner General appointed

The Honourable Minister of Finance and Development Planning Dr. Retšelisitsoe Matlanyane has appointed Mrs. Mathabo Mokoko as the new Commissioner General of the Revenue Services Lesotho (RSL).

 

 Mrs. Mathabo Mokoko is an admitted Advocate of the High Court and Court of Appeal of Lesotho. She graduated with Bachelor of Laws from the University of Lesotho and also obtained Masters of Taxation from the University of Pretoria. She has worked previously as a practicing Advocate at a private law firm, and she also taught Taxation as a Part-Time Lecturer at the University of Lesotho. She has served in several roles at Revenue Services Lesotho (RSL) then the Lesotho Revenue Authority (LRA), first as the Legal Officer, Legal Officer Law Interpretation and as a Senior Manager – Policy Procedures and Law Interpretation. She worked at the United Nations Head Quarters in New York as the Inter-Regional Advisor on International Tax Matters. Mrs. Mokoko’s career included stints as the Head Legal and Board Secretary and Manager Legal Affairs and Company Secretary at Water and Sewage Company (WASCO) and Vodacom Lesotho, respectively.

 

She rejoined the Revenue Services Lesotho as the Commissioner Operations Support and then moved to the Client Services Division as the Commissioner of Client Services, a position she held until her new appointment as the Commissioner General. Mrs. Mokoko succeeds Mr. Thabo Khasipe who left RSL in December 2022 to join the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) as its Executive Secretary.

 

In her remarks, the Honourable Minister of Finance and Development Planning Dr. Retšelisitsoe Matlanyane congratulated the new Commissioner General for her appointment.

 

“The good thing is that she is no stranger to the revenue collection environment, having served in this organization for many years, in various roles. She is therefore familiar with the business of the RSL. Her international and private company experience are also very critical and we believe would be much handy in providing the appropriate leadership and setting the relevant strategies to ensure the success of the RSL,” she said.

 

The newly appointed Revenue Services Lesotho (RSL) Commissioner General Mrs.  ‘Mathabo Mokoko, said one of her main duties will be to ensure that Taxpayers have easy access to RSL services conveniently while complying with the tax laws.
