Established in 1998, Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) has made significant progress in easing access to tax services and enhancing compliance. Created a few years after the genocide against the Tutsi, it was intended to foster self-reliance and build national capabilities. It has since grown steadily into a pivotal institution.
Recently, RRA welcomed Ronald Niwenshuti as the new Commissioner General, succeeding Bizimana Ruganintwali Pascal, who had led the tax administration since 2018. Additionally, Dr. Innocente Murasi took over from Jean Louis Kaliningondo as Deputy Commissioner General.
There is no doubt that their extensive experience will contribute significantly to the fulfillment of RRA’s mission of mobilizing revenue for economic development through efficient and equitable services that promote business growth.
To achieve this mission, RRA has been implementing various measures to create a taxpayer-friendly environment where individuals and businesses feel comfortable fulfilling their tax responsibilities. These initiatives aim to establish RRA as a data-savvy and transparent tax administration, fostering an environment of voluntary compliance.
