During September, members of the Pacific came together for 2024 PITAA Annual Heads Meeting in Port Vila, Vanuatu. This important gathering brought together tax officials from across the Pacific region to address key challenges and opportunities in tax administration. The theme of 2024 was Navigating challenging Seas, Charting the Course of Modern Taxation in the Pacific. This theme captures the key challenges and opportunities currently facing Pacific revenue administrations as they sail through the rapidly evolving domestic, regional, and global operating environment.
This year, CATA was represented by Australian delegate Frances Horsburgh who took the opportunity as an observer to capture valuable insights on what is top of mind in the Pacific. In addition to the professional agenda, the conference celebrated Vanuatu's rich cultural heritage. The Vanuatu Customs and Revenue agency were outstanding hosts showcasing the beautiful culture of the island as well as facilitating a meeting that was an excellent opportunity for PITAA members to collaborate.
The PITAA Annual heads meeting is an excellent opportunity for discussing what matters in the region, reinforcing the significance of collaboration among Pacific nations but also highlighting the critical role of tax systems in supporting sustainable development and economic resilience.
Congratulations to next year’s hosts Tonga - we are sure they will deliver another outstanding event in the Pacific!
