Norwegian Tax Administration visit CATA Secretariat

A delegation from the Norwegian Tax Administration (NTA) recently paid a courtesy call on the Executive Director at Marlborough House, London. The team, which also included a representative from the Norwegian Development Agency (NORAD), discussed a wide range of issues around tax for development, focusing on the Addis Ababa Tax Initiative and the UN Financing for Development with its emphasis on domestic revenue mobilization. Norway is among the development partners who are signatories to the Addis Tax Initiative and have committed to double their development/technical assistance in the area of domestic revenue mobilization by 2020. To this end the tax administration ‘has created a central unit for capacity building with the relevant expertise’ in various tax administrative functions such as compliance verification and tax audits, risk management, international taxation and exchange of information, business re-engineering, IT system implementation, data analysis, HR management, governance, integrity and transparency among others.

The meeting explored possible ways in which CATA members may benefit from these initiatives and also on the future cooperation and partnership between NTA, NORAD and CATA. Present at the meeting was Mr Fredrik Aksnes (Program Manager, NTA), Frode Lindseth (Senior Adviser, NTA), Beat Gisler (Project Manager, NTA) and Mr Olav Landstol (Policy Director, NORAD).
